WHO WE ARE

The Fanny Bay Groundwater Collective is a not-for-profit community organization formed at the Fanny Bay Summer Market in 2025.
Following a February 14, 2026 meeting at Little Hall, a TASK FORCE of six of your Fanny Bay neighbours (see below) was formed to guide this work.

We are located on the unceded traditional territory of the Sahloot (‘sath-loot), Sasitla (sa’seet-la), Ieeksun (eye-‘ick-sun), Xa’xe (‘ha’hey) and Pentlatch peoples, who together, make up the K’omoks Nation.

We are grateful for the support of our community partners:
Fanny Bay Seniors’ Society
Fanny Bay Community Association
Beaufort Watershed Stewards
Baynes Sound Garden Club

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOURS:

JACKIE AINSWORTH
"I’ve been wanting to be part of a group like this for years. It’s true - water is life. And such an important resource should be governed and protected by community not corporations. As an added benefit I get to work with really great, like-minded people!”

"Joining this group has given me a chance to support an equally shared resource I value immensely , our ground water . It has reminded me of the old Quaker quote , ‘ to walk gently upon the face of the Earth ‘ . I feel very fortunate to be part of a team with so much experience and so much heart..."

It isn't a given that we turn on the tap and the water runs freely.  Our water is a fundamental resource.  Where better place to understand and protect it than literally in our own backyards.

SHIRL LEGGETT
In this time of climate change, global warming, and wells drying in our community, it seemed vital for us all to step forward to save our groundwater, our most critical resource. Joining this committee of talented like-minded individuals gives me the opportunity to do my part to work towards a water sustainability plan for our community.

With many threats to our groundwater, community concerns with wells running dry and declining water levels, I chose to get involved in the hope my contribution can help to protect this precious resource for our community and future generations.

Water is a good of the commons, and commons is the root of community. Community sustainability relies on a sustainable water resource. BC's Water Act offers new options to protect our fragile aquifers. Armed with a great task force, the support of our neighbours and funding from West Coast Environmental Law, we are delighted to be pursuing those options.
